What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles?

Porcelain is a type of ceramic, but its denser composition and higher firing pressure make it more durable and water-resistant. Porcelain tiles absorb less than 0.5% water, making them ideal for high-traffic, wet, and outdoor areas, while ceramic tiles, though still durable, are more porous and better suited for indoor, low-traffic applications. Both are kiln-fired, but porcelain's strength and weather resistance give it an edge for demanding installations.
